In today’s world, the entertainment industry is quite possibly the most important industry in our country. Movies, television, and music make up our culture, and people all across the globe are intensely fascinated by all of it. Fans will use all types of media to get information about their favorite actor or musician. Because of this, the use of a publicist is very important.

A publicist works very closely with a “celebrity” in order to keep up their image and release information to the public about their lives. If there is a scandal, a publicist is the one who jumps in to do damage control for their client. In the past, publicists would do their best to help keep great images for their clients, and would pretty much cover up anything they had to in order to keep that image. Many publicists in old Hollywood would come up with backgrounds for their clients to make them seem more appealing, and would also make them seem a lot more “wholesome” than some of them really were.

Today, most publicist do not do this. The Internet and social media makes it harder to come up with a fake story to tell the public, because the fans, and the press, will find the truth. Although a publicist tries to make the story seem more positive, they don’t just outright lie. It seems that entertainment publicity is moving more towards honesty and being positive than it seems like it used to be in the past. This is definitely a move in the right direction.

The entertainment industry will always be around, and while it is, a PR professional will be required. The industry has changed quite a bit over the years and will continue to do so, and the way publicists work in the industry will change with it.
